This Christmas was a lot different to last year, weather wise. Whilst last year we bought extra food just in case the snow prevented us from visiting family on Christmas Day, there was no fear of that this year. In fact, although it is cold it is quite mild for this time of year.
Unfortunately that probably means we are in for a nasty January and February, something that can be worrying for all us car drivers. Daily lives are not too disrupted if you drive a capable 4x4, but if you're in a small car like mine, you can feel very unsafe on the road.
Two years ago we experienced treacherous conditions. I remember one journey home from work, which should only take 25 minutes, took me five and a half hours! I drove extra slowly on the motorway, and when I was five minutes from home the traffic came to a standstill. But I could not abandon the car as I would have locked everyone else, so had to sit there when I could have easily walked the rest of the way. I had no charge on my phone so had no way of phoning home, and nothing to eat, although I was lucky to have a bottle of water. I had to keep switching the engine off to save fuel and kept the radio off to save the battery, so it was not the most entertaining five and half hours of my life!
Luckily I made it home safely in the end, but I saw so many accidents on the way, people who simply could not stop and skidded into other cars. Fortunately there were no casualties as most cars were pretty much stationary, but that does not stop the damage being cause to your car. Many drivers had to visit their local garage once the snow had melted to have car accident repairs Leicester. The next couple of months hopefully won't be as bad as this, but all drivers should be extra vigilant and careful on the roads this winter.
