As the name suggests the Skoda Citigo is a small city car produced by the Czech manufacturer. It is a rebadged version of the VW Up! With subtle differences to the front grille design and rear window size. Both three and five door versions will be available when the car goes on sale in 2012, although it is thought that the 3 door will be the launch model.
As well as the VW Up! the Skoda Citigo also shares its platform for the SEAT Mii, all three models are part of VW Group's New Small Family project. Along with its sister cars the Skoda Citigo is the first car in its class to offer automated braking system " called "City Safe Drive" by Skoda.
The Skoda Citigo in Oxfordshire will be available with a 3 cylinder 1.0 litre petrol engine; two power options will be offered 60 or 75 bhp. Neither of the engines will set the tarmac alight but they are fuel efficient and produce 105 and 108 g/km of CO2 emissions.
For a small car the Citigo feels big and spacious, it can carry four passengers in comfort but you may end up shifting down gears for every hill! Skoda will be offering many big car options in the Citigo, mainly to help grab consumers form other brands. Some of the optional extras include an automatic transmission, panoramic roof, a city-safe rear-end shunt avoidance system, cruise control, heated seats and parking beepers.
The Citigo will go on sale at 7,500 for the 3 door model; this is 500 cheaper than the VW Up! the 5 door version will be 350 extra than the 3 door when it goes on sale later in the year. With VW underpinning the Citigo will no doubt be another modern Skoda that will become very popular.
