The Suzuki Alto is a small city car manufactured by Suzuki since 1979; it has been sold around the world under many different name plates. In India it is sold as the Maruti 800, and in other countries it was sold as the Daewoo Tico. The Alto has become very popular as a cheap, fuel efficient and reliable car.
The current model was launched in 2009 and is the 7th generation model; it is only available as a 5 door hatchback. The new model is exclusively built in India and then exported around the globe; in India it is called the Suzuki A-Star. This model of the Alto has been adapted by Nissan and sold as the Nissan Pixo in European countries, including England.
In the UK the Suzuki Alto is available with only 1 engine, a three cylinder 1.0 litre engine that produces 67 bhp. The Alto has always been focussed on fuel economy so the gearing on it is very long, which means the Alto is very slow off the mark. Once it gets going it is very nippy around town and can manage fine on bigger roads.
Towards the tail end of 2010 Suzuki launched a limited edition version of the Alto, called the Suzuki Alto Cruz " it was limited to a run of 500 units. Based on the SZ3 trim level the limited edition model comes with air conditioning and pollen filter as standard equipment and offers a higher specification with various exterior trim upgrades.
The limited edition model is distinguishable by its stylish new design wheel caps, black side mouldings and black 'B' pillar trims as well as Cruz badging. The Special Edition model is available in either Superior White or Bright Red non metallic colours. The Suzuki Alto in Kent is available for less than 7k and continues to prove how good of a little car it is.
