French car manufacturer Renault has been producing the Megane since 1995; it is a small family car available as a 3 or 5 door hatchback, 4 door saloon, coupe and also a convertible. When the Megane was launched it was seen as the natural successor to the Renault 19, which had run its course. In 2006 Renault launched the Scenic which was based on the same platform as the Megane and shared many components.
The third generation Megane which is also the current model was launched in 2008; it is a distinctive step away from the second generation and does not feature the notable large rear end. The new model is available as a 5 or 3 door hatchback and a convertible. The 5 door model has a much more conservative design whilst the 3 door model has a very sporty look.
UK models come with a choice of nine engines, of which 5 are petrol models and 4 are diesels. The petrol range starts with two 1.6 litre engines with 99 and 109 bhp respectively. There are two turbo charged petrol units, a 1.4 litre with 129 bhp and a 2.0 litre with 178 bhp. There is a non turbo 2.0 litre that has 138 bhp and only comes with the CVT transmission. The diesel range kicks off with two 1.5 litre units with 85 and 105 bhp, then there is a 1.9 litre with 128 bhp and finally there is a 2.0 litre unit with 158 bhp.
For the 2012 model year Renault has enhanced the Megane to keep it fresh and in line with the rest of its models. The new model comes with a new front end design that includes LED daytime running lights to provide a distinctive new lighting signature.
Enhancements have also been made to the engine line up; there are now three new Start & Stop engines to choose from. The interior has also been upgraded to include the option of a two-tone leather pack. The new model is available at Renault Southampton to order right now.
