It is that simple. It is hard to describe the in-describable. Many times people think that the real reason for the trip is perfect for the heathens of the world yet it's so much more than that. Personally, I have been on about 8 trips and each one is various. It is very true that God works in mysterious ways. Actually he works in all of our lives but most of the time we can't see beyond our own non selfish world.
I can honestly say that I have met people and I knew without a doubt that I was sent to sit with them, encourage them, help them, and support them. Many times people with needs are too proud to ask for that sort of help but when someone shows up in a working atmosphere or even a simple praise period. That small amount of time can have a large impact in that person's life.
Regrettably, not everyone can go. Many times you will find people who believe they have wasted their lives because they didn't pursue missions of some kind. Instead, they placed their own resources, such as money, in other people and projects for the higher good. They diligently arrived at the church service in which the returning reports and testimonies are given, sit and pay attention. They rejoice in silence.
Lately, I met one such individual. She is a retired woman in the church and her husband is confined to a nursing home. But she has that gleam in her eye when the reports come back and I am VERY confident that she is one of the silent givers to our many trips. The positive attitude, smiles, and simple gifts of food provided for the departing trip were always thought of as being sweet. But there was so much more than that.
No matter what the gift. We usually take them for granted until God puts it into perspective for us.
So despite the fact that we travel to far off places to reach people that probably don't know God. There are others which benefit too even though they do not board the plane.
They may have some reservations about previous paths but I feel they are blessed in as much, if not more, than me.
The second individual concerning missions came out of nowhere to me. But I was too late to respond. This man was a meticulous person. A very detailed and analytical thinker. I thought he or she were very deliberate in every thing he did however missions? No way!
As it ended up. He too went to the church services for the reports and testimonies. And like others sat there and absorbed the moment. He asked questions, looked at their mementos and marveled at their witnessing stories. But he never went on a trip.
It was not until his funeral that I discovered his passion for the mission area. I heard the stories of how money was needed so he setup an unique fund so groups will not have to worry about not having enough. He earned it happen for them throughout those short falls in cash and stayed totally anonymous.
He even led to my trips when my own looked impossible. I wish I possibly could thank him now. I wish I knew then what I know now.
