The used VW Caddy in Scotland has been around for many years now. The 1996 model was based on the Volkswagen Group's A03 platform and was designed and built by the SEAT arm of the business. The SEAT version was called the Inca and it was phased out gradually as SEAT became the sporty brand for the VW Group.
The latest version of the Caddy has been in production since 2004, it is based on the VW Golf platform. During its design refresh the new Caddy received the new corporate VW front - a more aggressive front with new headlights and grille similar to the Volkswagen Golf.
In 2007 VW unveiled the Caddy Maxi, this model is larger than the Caddy model. It is 470mm longer and has a load space of 4.2m squared. There is also a passenger carrying version of the Maxi, called the Maxi Life.
At this year's Professional Van and Light Truck magazine's awards VW commercial vans walked away with two awards. One of these awards was for the Caddy Maxi and the other was for the Crafter. John Fife, Editor of PV< praised the Caddy Maxi saying: 'With a load length now of 2250 mm (compared to the Caddy's 1781 mm) it gives tradesmen the opportunity to carry their stepladders inside the van rather than on a roof rack! But the big attraction of the Caddy Maxi is up at the other end of the vehicle. It provides one of the most comfortable driving experiences in the LCV sector. The trouble here is that once an employee gets his or hands on it, anything else will be seen as a demotion!'
VW Commercials has fine-tuned and refined its commercial van range to make the driver feel as though they are driving a normal car rather than a van. Most vans now come with electric windows, cd player, Bluetooth connectivity and cruise control.
