TJapanese car maker Nissan has been producing the X-Trail since 2001; it is a compact crossover Sports Utility Vehicle. In most markets the Nissan X-Trail competes with the Honda CR-V and the Toyota RAV4. The first generation model was based on the Nissan Almera and Primera platform. For the UK market it was available in a choice of 3 trim levels, S, Sport and SE+.
The first generation X-Trail was placed very competitively in the market, price wise and equipment wise too. Standard kit in the X-Trail included full electric windows, electricity adjustable door mirrors (on SVE & T-Spec they were electrically folding also), climate control, single CD player, 4 airbags and remote central locking.
The second generation model was launched in 2007; it is the current model and is based on Nissan's C platform. The new Nissan X-Trail is slightly larger than the old model; it got a facelift in 2010 to keep it looking fresh and in-line with the rest of the models.
For 2012 Nissan will be launching a new limited edition top of the range X-Trail. According to Nissan the limited edition model will get additional kit that has never been seen in the model range before. On the exterior the special edition will come with additional protection plates located below the bumpers and chrome side steps and chrome door protection mouldings.
On the inside the new version will come with leather upholstery and electrically adjustable, heated front seats. A new touch screen communication unit features satellite navigation, iPod connectivity and Bluetooth. There's also a reversing camera, with the image screened into the rear-view mirror.
Engine wise it will be powered by Nissan's 2.0 litre dCi engine with either the manual or automatic transmission. The manual gearboxed model produces 170 bhp and can achieve 44.1 miles to the gallon.
