The Citroen C1 has been around since 2005, it is a product of a joint venture between PSA Peugeot Citroen and Toyota. Other models that share the same under pinning as the C1 are the Toyota Aygo and the Peugeot 107. All three cars are very similar looking except for the rear ends which are unique to each brand. Since its UK launch in 2005 over 80,000 models have been sold.
An all new Citroen C1 is due to go on sale next year but Citroen have given the current model a refresh for the time being. Citroen showed off the new revisions at the Brussels Motor Show last week. The most important change has been made under the bonnet, the new model emits less that 100g/km of CO2. Producing less than 100g/km of CO2 means the C1 benefits from certain exceptions, such as, no road tax and no London Congestion Charge.
As well as lower CO2 emissions tweaks to the 67bhp 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine mean that the C1 can achieve a combined economy of 65.7 mpg. The new C1 is also available with an Electronic Gearbox System complete with steering-mounted paddle controls for enhanced handling and driving pleasure. This EGS version delivers 62.8 mpg (combined) and emits 104g/km of CO2.
Exterior changes have also been made; the front bumper has been redesigned to house fog lights and LED daytime running lights. The vertical design LED light signature mimics that seen on the DS3 and C4 Aircross. If you go for the top of the range model then it now comes with 14 inch alloys as standard.
With the new model out in the next couple of months there will be a few more used Citroen C1 models on sale. So, if you do not mind having a older generation model then now is a good time to get a deal!
