The Best Executive Car For 2011 Named As Audi A4 Allroad

Audi has been producing the A4 since 1998; it was launched to replace the Audi 80 as the brand's entry level 4 door executive saloon. As well as a saloon the A4 was available as an estate and later on as a cabriolet. The entry level engine was a 1.8 litre turbo with 150 bhp; larger V6 engines included a 2.8 litre with 190 bhp. It was available with Audi's Quattro 4-wheel drive system as an optional extra.

Over the years the Audi A4 in Southampton has evolved into a much more sophisticated model and is no longer the entry level mode. We now have the Audi A1 as the entry level model followed by the A3 and then the A4, the new Q3 probably sits just above the A3 but under the A4.

In a major revamp of the model line up a few years back Audi launched the A5 range, which is an offshoot of the A4 range. The A5 itself has evolved further now with a 5 door sportback version as well as the coupe and cabriolet. The A4 range no longer has a cabriolet; the A5 Cabriolet has filled that void.

Rumours were circulating that the A5 range will take over from the A4 range and make the A4 models redundant. This has not happened and Audi has already launched pictures and data about the 2013 A4.

The A4 range now has an Allroad model, which is a rugged estate model with higher ground clearance and large plastic arches. The Allroad model was voted Executive Car of the Year by the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers at its annual Scottish Car of the Year Awards.

Director of Audi UK Jeremy Hicks was delighted with the result: "If proof were needed that the A4 Allroad is fit for purpose, not just as super refined executive transport but also as a tough opponent to more testing terrain and conditions, then an award made by Scottish motoring writers surely provides it. This is a great endorsement."
