My father started the family business, selling Used Cars in Hereford. He had a lot of experience selling used cars having worked in the business since he was a kid. A used car, a pre-owned vehicle, or a second hand car, is a vehicle that has previously had one or more owners. Used cars are sold through a variety of outlet including franchise and independent car dealers, rental car companies, leasing offices, auctions, and private sellers.
When my brothers and I were old enough we began working at the garage in Hereford, not far from our house. We would work on the weekends for pocket money, washing cars. A few years later when I came to leave school, I began working at the garage. I started to learn all of the different jobs that went into making the business run efficiently. I learnt that it was very expensive to rent the property in Hereford and was initially surprised that we did not own it outright. I eventually moved on to face to face contact with potential customers, in a sales role. I found this part of the job the most enjoyable because you got the opportunity to meet lots of new people. It is also a test at how well you can perform under pressure and guide the Hereford public into buying one of our vehicles.
I had been trying to sell used cars at the garage for a couple of weeks when I finally cracked my technique and outperformed any other salesman that had ever worked there. I managed to sell 3 cars in one day and make a record profit for the business. My father was very pleased and gave me a bonus on the spot.
