I had a phone call the other day from an organisation that I did not know existed. They specialise in hunting down heirs to unclaimed inheritances all over the country. It turns out that there are a great deal of people who never write a will and therefore when they die large sums of money are left unclaimed. It is their job to research the family tree of the deceased to try and find out whether or not there is a rightful heir. They do, of course, take a percentage for themselves.
The gentlemen on the phone asked me to confirm my name and then proceeded to give me some very good news. It turned out that I had a great uncle that I did not know about. He owned a garage selling Used Cars in Belfast and had recently died of a heart attack. I knew that I did have some family in Ireland but I had never had any contact with them and never expected to. My great Uncle did not have any family and so when he died his business was left stagnant. I was informed that the business selling used cars, in Belfast, was now mine. I had absolutely no experience with used cars and had never been to Belfast so I decided that I would sell up and take the money.
It took a couple of months to sell all of the cars and the property itself. I took a quick trip out to Belfast to look at it before it was sold. I am very grateful to my dead great uncle for this amazing stroke of luck. I am now used to paying the bills on time and can hardly remember being poor.
