Every year we make sure that we go on a family holiday, somewhere in the UK. We usually head to Devon or Cornwall but this time we decided upon Kirkcaldy on the East Coast of Scotland. We always used our VW Golf to drive to each destination and had become used to the process of packing it as tightly as possible with all of our things that we would need for the week. My wife was browsing for holiday ideas on the internet when she saw an advertisement for a nice holiday cottage in Kirkcaldy. She was attracted to the place in Kirkcaldy due to the fact that it had a large garden and an outdoor pool. I took a look at it and agreed.
The drive up to Kirkcaldy in the VW Golf did not take as long as I had expected. The car was very heavy so we did not get up to any high speeds but this did not matter because there was virtually no traffic on the roads, especially when we crossed into Scotland, which was not something I was used to. The scenery on the way there was very nice.
Kirkcaldy was a quiet place which was exactly what we wanted. The holiday cottage was actually far bigger than it looked on the internet which was a bonus. We made good use of the pool and the garden and when it the time came for us to leave we were all sorry to leave the place.
The drive back home took quite a long time and by the time we arrived back home in the VW golf it was dark. I used the A roads to get back to soak up the scenery, which was a mistake.
