The Jaguar XF was the first model to come out of the British car maker's plant after the takeover by Indian car company TATA Motors. The XF marked Jaguars return to successful car building and selling, it also marked Jaguar's new design philosophy. The XF was the first model to move away from Jaguar's traditional design styling and was accepted very well by automotive journalists and Jaguar enthusiasts.
The XF was derived from the C-XF concept that was shown by Jaguar at the 2007 North American International Auto Show. The production model was ready by 2008 and went on sale with some unique features such as the air-conditioning vents which are flush-fitting in the dash, rotating open once the engine is started, and a rotating gearshift dial called the JaguarDrive Selector which rises out of the centre console.
Since its unveiling the Jaguar XF has won many awards including the What Diesel? Magazine's award twice in a row and the What Car? award four times in a row!
Last year the XF received a small facelift, changes were made to the front and rear of the car. The current model is available at Jaguar Dorset with a choice of 3 diesel engines and 3 petrol ones. The diesel engine range starts off with a 2.2 litre with 178 bhp followed by two 3.0 litre V6s with 237 and 271 bhp. The petrol engines are big 5.0 litre V8 power houses with either 380 or 503 bhp.
For the 2012 model Jaguar have added a new entry level diesel engine, it is based on the same 2.2 litre unit but comes with 163 PS. It can do 0-62 mph in less than 10 seconds, has a top speed of 130 mph and emits 149 g/km of CO2 emissions. This model will be very popular with fleet and business drivers.
