There's an old saying in hypnosis that will serve you extremely well...
"Don't Change People's Minds, Change Their Moods."
This simple quote holds the key to a massive realization: No matter how much we may want to kid ourselves into thinking we are rational, logical creatures, the reality is we base the majority of our decisions on emotion.
If you want to persuade and influence you'll find that rational arguments alone will fall on deaf ears. All great persuaders know the value of appealing to emotion, and this is something you need to keep constantly in the back of your mind if you want to be successful with covert hypnosis.
Now, am I saying that you should NEVER use logical or rational arguments? Of course not! In fact, there definitely is a place for them in persuasion " just remember that more often than not it's the emotions that really run the show. If you want to influence the subconscious mind, emotions have the key.
So, how do you tap into emotions? Easy:
1: Stimulate the imagination
The emotions and the imagination are closely linked. This is why you get an emotional reaction from watching a good movie. On the darker side, it's also why many people live in anxiety - they imagine bad things happening, and get an emotion response from this. As an influencer, it's your job to help free people from these negative feelings, and show them how to use their imagination to improve their lives.
To stimulate the imagination, begin by becoming a storyteller. Become alert to interesting facts and events in your own life, and collect fascinating stories to share with others. As you do so, practice using vivid sensory descriptions, describing what you see, hear, feel, taste and smell. Create a powerful experience for the imagination, and you'll also create a powerful experience for the emotions.
2: Ask emotive questions and speak with emotive language.
The quickest and easiest way to have someone feel a particular emotion is by asking them about it! Simply ask questions like "how often do you feel relaxed?" or "what is it about your job that really makes you feel happy?" Notice that these are simple everyday questions, with an emotional focus.
If you want to really help people create transformations, and be an effective influencer, the emotions are where it's at. Start layering your communication with emotional references, and learn to think emotively, as well as logically.
For many of us, this requires a period of "unlearning." Whilst school tries to teach us to defer to logic at every opportunity, the true path to effective communication is emotive, rather than rational. Allow yourself to use emotional references in your speech, ask emotive questions, and stimulate the imagination.
