The Ford Transit has been the best van in the UK since its launch in 1965; it has always outsold competitors even when they have launched better models. Over the years the Ford Transit hasn't always been the first to market with new technology and gadgets, but more often than not the Ford guys have come back with something even better.
The new Ford Transit that has been launched is now Euro 5 compliant, the latest Transit however is not the first van to be compliant with the new regulations. Other manufacturers have been selling their Euro 5 compliant models for a few months now. But in true Ford Transit style this new model has come and blown away the competition.
Being Euro 5 compliant means that vans and cars have to have more power, lower CO2 emissions and better fuel economy. Ford has launched the new Transit upgrading it to a level of refinement, economy and reliability never dreamt of even 10 years ago. On the outside the new van has not changed much except for a chrome grill. All the major changes have taken place under the bonnet and in the engine compartment.
The new Transit has one engine with a choice of power output; it is a 2.2 litre turbo diesel engine. This has resulted in mpg figures of between 29.4 and 43.5mpg which is up from 23.3-39.2 in the current model and CO2 emissions of between 173-252g/km which is down from 189-296.New eco technology has been added including stop-start and a switchable speed limiter, there will also be Econetic models available on both short wheel and long wheel base formats.
As long as the Transit keeps evolving it will stay ahead of its competition. It has built a level of trust and loyalty that no other van has managed to establish.
