Ford launched the C-Max in 2003; it is sometimes referred to as the Ford Focus C-Max as it uses the Focus platform and many of its components. The C-Max is classed as a compact MPV and joins the growing number of small MPV type family cars available in the market. Within Ford's MPV line-up the C-Max sits below the S-Max and Galaxy, making it the smallest MPV offering by Ford.
The latest version of the Ford C-Max in Readingwent on sale in 2010; it has taken its design cues from the Losis Max concept shown at Geneva Motor Show in 2009. The latest generation now has a Grand C-Max which has 7 seats. The new model has flat folding third row seats, a hands free power lift gate, rear view camera, park assist, and panoramic sunroof. HD Radio, Sirius XM, Sync, dual-zone climate control system, and navigation system come as standard or as available options on the different trim lines.
There are quite a few engines options available with various stages of tuning; the petrol range starts off with a 1.6 litre Duratec that has 105 bhp. The diesel range is made up of a 2.0 litre Duratorq engine that comes with 115, 140 or 163 bhp.
A few months after the new model was launched last year the C-Max won two awards at the Fleet News Awards. The two accolades were 'New Company Car of The Year 2011' and 'Best People Carrier'. By the middle of last year over 100,000 C-Max models had been sold. Ford has had to increase the line speed at its Valencia plant in Spain to meet demand, resulting in an almost 18% increase in daily production. It appears that Ford C-Max owners prefer to have as much kit as they possible can - 65% of Ford C-MAX sales have been top end trim levels,
