Head to the Toyota dealer in Gateshead to check out the new Land Cruiser V8, which is the latest incarnation of the legendary SUV. Toyota has been producing the Land Cruiser since 1951 (hence the legendary bit) and it has been selling successfully globally even amongst new models from premium brands.
The most recent version of the Land Cruiser was launched in 2007; it uses the same platform as the Lexus LX 570. Like with all new Toyota the latest Cruiser is fitted with loads of gadgets and gizmos including:
Smart Entry - A sensor is triggered when the remote is brought near the vehicle, allowing the user to simply touch the door handle to open it. Smart Start - Start/Stop push button for ignition; a key is not required. 4-zone climate control on Sahara models, with outlet vents increased from 18 to 28 10 airbags (VX & Sahara)
Driver aid and accident prevention technologies were also added, these include:
CRAWL; a four-wheel drive control system that operates like an off-road cruise control, automatically maintaining a low uniform vehicle speed using brakes and throttle. Downhill Assist Control A newly developed ABS system, the multi-terrain anti-lock braking system (ABS) Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS), allows for greater wheel articulation An optional rear view camera (VX)
For 2012 Toyota has launched the V8 model, the 4.5 litre turbo diesel unit has been modified to meet new Euro 5 emission laws. A diesel particulate filter has been fitted, allowing the main exhaust silencer to be reduced in size to improve fuel efficiency, noise and vibration.
As well as the main engine change the 2012 model has some exterior changes too, some of the improvements include revised headlamps with LED daytime running lights, chrome side mouldings and new rear lights. Interior changes have been made to and a colour TFT screen has been installed.
