The Suzuki swift is a compact hatchback produced by the Japanese car manufacturer since 2000, it is available as a 3 or 5 door model. UK customers will be more familiar with the Swift that was released in 2004; it was a step away from the 1st generation model. Suzuki decided to move the Swift away from the budget range and instead market it as a sporty hatchback.
The third generation was launched in 2010 and it is an evolution of the 2nd generation model " it has been rounded off at the front and rear with different light clusters. There are three engine options for the UK model; entry level 1.2 litre petrol that has 93 bhp, a 1.3 litre diesel that has 74 bhp and the sporty 1.6 litre petrol that has 134 bhp.
This month the new Suzuki Swift Sport has gone on sale, it uses the larger 1.6 litre petrol engine. It is priced at 13,500 and comes with a generous amount of standard equipment for the price tag. The Sport model comes with automatic air conditioning, fog lamps, push button start, cruise control, Bluetooth connectivity, HID Projector headlamps with headlamp wash and rear privacy glass.
The Suzuki Swift Sport in Scotland is a good entry level hot hatch model; the 136 bhp engine propels it from 0-62 mph in less than 9 seconds. Suzuki have tuned the chassis and suspension to improve the handling which now delivers a lively, vibrant and hot hatch driving experience. The Swift Sport has undergone extensive improvements, upgrading its performance, handling and eco credentials.
For the asking price the Sport model is a very good choice for those looking for an exciting and rewarding drive. It may not be as fast or as powerful as some of the hot hatches in the market at the moment but it offers excellent value for money.
