The Audi A6 in Berkshire is an executive car produced by the German car manufacturer; the first model was available from 1994. The current model was launched last year; it is heavily influenced by the new Audi A7 and has taken both interior and exterior features from its bigger brother. The new model is somewhat bigger than its predecessor; it is 3 inches longer and 0.7 inches wider.
For the UK market there is a total of four engines on offer, but Audi predict that the diesel range will be the most popular. The single petrol on offer is a 3.0 litre FSI supercharged model with almost 300 bhp, its fast " very fast. There are two diesel engines; a 2.0 litre with 175 bhp and a 3.0 litre with either 201 or 242 bhp.
This month Audi has unveiled the latest A6 model " the Audi A6 Allroad. The Allroad is an estate derivative of the saloon and sits higher to give it better ground clearance. It sits 60mm higher than the standard car, and features styling changes including a different front grille and bumper designs, skid plates, roof rails and protection around the exhaust.
The A6 Allroad is a big car but Audi have managed to keep the total weight down by using Aluminium components to make up roughly 20% of its body, and total weight has been reduced by as much as 70kgs compared to the previous generation model.
The engine line-up is very similar to that of the standard saloon model; it will available with a choice of four V6 engines " one TFSI petrol and three TDI diesel power houses. All are three-litre turbo engines and are fitted with stop-start and thermal management systems.
The new Audi A6 Allroad will be available for order in the UK next month; first deliveries are expected in the spring.
