Over the last 40 years or so BMW has sold nearly six million 5 Series models, making it one of the most successful cars in automotive history. The BMW 5 Series has also played a pivotal role in shaping the executive saloon sector in the car industry. As well as an excellent fleet car the BMW 5 Series doubles up as a very good large family car.
The BMW 5 Series in Shropshire comes with an array of petrol and diesel options, providing fuel efficient engines, powerful engines and engines that offer a combination of both. In the petrol range there is a 2.0 litre, 3.0 litre and a V8 with 401 bhp. The BMW M5 comes with a 4.4 litre twin turbo and has 552 bhp.
The diesel range is the more popular out of the two, mainly because BMW diesel engines offer great performance while still being fuel efficient. Towards the tail end of last year a new 520d ED model was launched, it has a 2.0 litre diesel engine that has 184 bhp and can do 62.8 miles to the gallon. It is no slouch either; it can do 0-62 mph in 8.2 seconds and has a top speed of 144 mph.
BMW will also be launching a new high performance diesel engine, it will utilise three turbo units rather than just 2! According to leaked news this new engine will have 376bhp and over 516lb ft of torque. It will use two traditional turbo units along with a new electrically driven turbocharger to added low-end response.
The 550dx will sit above the 535d and become the range topping model. The new tri turbo engine will be able to do 0-62 mph in around 5 seconds, it will have an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph. It will be able to do around 46 mpg which is very similar to the 535d.
