The Ford Fiesta was initially launched in 1976; it is a supermini vehicle that has been dominating its segment for many years now. In the UK the Fiesta has been the bestselling car in the automotive industry for many years. The latest version of the Fiesta went on sale in 2008; it is available as a 3 or 5 door hatchback. In some countries the Fiesta is only available as a 5 door and in others it is available as a saloon.
Towards the end of last year there were rumours of a Fiesta ST and it appears that these rumours were based on some truth. A Fiesta ST is due to go on sale in the UK later this year; it will only be available as a 3 door hatchback. Some online magazines have pictures of a 5 door model testing, but this is only because in the USA there was only a 5 door body-shell available.
The Fiesta ST will enter a very competitive market which is currently owned by the Renaultsport Clio and Mini Cooper S. Like the Focus ST the Fiesta ST has large, upright, gaping grill and aggressive bodykit. Powering the ST will be a 1.6 litre turbo charged EvoBoost engine, it will have 178 bhp and will be able to do 0-62 mph in less than 7 seconds " top speed will be 140 mph.
Ford demonstrated with the Focus ST that small cars can have many "big car" features and it looks like the Fiesta ST will continue with this trend. The Ford Fiesta in London will come with a torque vectoring system, CUSC and three-stage ESP.
The Fiesta and its hot hatch derivatives are very popular amongst car enthusiasts and no doubt the new ST model will be very popular.
