There are so many awards flying about in the car industry nowadays that it's hard to differentiate between the prestigious and the ridiculous. However, one of the more prestigious and note-worthy is the What Car? Awards.
The automotive magazine hosts an annual award ceremony and the highlight of the show is the What Car? Car of the Year award. Competition was fierce but VW scooped the main award with its new model, Up. The tiny Volkswagen didn't stop there either as it also collected awards for best city car and car safety.
Impressive, but "how expensive is it?" I hear you ask. Well the surprisingly good news is it carries a tiny price tag too - 10,000. Judges at the What Car? Awards said the Up was the "right car for the right time" as it beat off competition from the new BMW 3-series, Porsche 911 and Ford Mondeo.
In the city car category it beat the similarly small Hyundai i10 and the stylish Fiat 500 and was the standout model in the car security award thanks to its City Emergency Braking System. What Car? editor Chas Hallett said: "The Volkswagen Up is the best car we've seen this year because it combines refinement, quality, space and economy. It sets new standards for the 10,000 price bracket"
The VW Group is producing similar cars under the Seat and Skoda brands " namely the Seat Mii and Skoda Citigo. However, these were not nominated as they are not currently on sale. However, if they are anywhere near as good as the Up then it may be worth waiting for as they are bound to carry an even smaller price tag. Demand is bound to be high though, so probably worth registering an interest with one of your local
