When you think of Ford's record breaking cars you automatically think of the likes of the Mondeo, Fiesta and Focus. However, this is most likely due to the fact these models have been around for many years. What you may be surprised to learn is that the Ford Fusion looks like it may be more successful than all of these cars.
Ford hasn't looked back since it began producing the Fusion in 2006. Five years after its inception the midsize saloon has been crowned Ford's best-selling car of 2011. Like most companies, Ford was reportedly struggling during the recession, and it has been asserted that the Fusion is largely responsible for Ford staying afloat during these tough times. Not resting on its laurels though, Ford is planning to launch a new Fusion in 2013 in the hope that it can carry on its good form. Given its track record, who would bet against the Fusion being Ford's best-selling car of 2013.
In keeping with consumer trends and modern technology, the next Fusion will offer three different versions to make it the first saloon to be available in petrol, hybrid and plug-in hybrid form.
Hybrid cars are really taking off in the UK and I think that by 2013 the Fusion may well be the car to break records. We are told that there will be two electric assisted Fusions available. The Hybrid will feature a new 2.0 litre four cylinder engine paired with a permanent magnet AC synchronous electric motor and lithium-ion battery pack. The result of which is a combined 185 horsepower to the ground via the front wheels which should be efficient enough to return up to 47 mpg in the city " impressive stuff for a sizable motor.
More impressive, however, is the plug-in Fusion Energi which may well become the most fuel-efficient midsize saloon in the world. The Energi can be a zero emissions vehicle capable of being recharged via home chargers and is likely to be capable of up to 100 mpg. I am excited already and plan to register an interest at
