Are you sitting comfortably? Now cast your minds back to this time last year. In the UK it seemed like a winter wonderland, full of snow, however this brought the whole country to a stop. The complaints that arose due to the snow, the nation could not cope. With the downfall of many a high street shop, people were losing confidence in high street shopping and therefore turned their attentions to online.

So came about a boost for late online sales Christmas shopping, what was not accounted for was how these items were to be delivered. If the nation was at a standstill due to the snow, how exactly was the gifts they ordered, and late at that, to arrive on time?

The fact the snow had arrived way too early and people were too scared to venture out and an increase in internet sales, this was doomed to fail. And so it did. Many online retailers had to advise their customers that their orders would not arrive in time for the big day and therefore, gave the option to either wait with their fingers crossed or to cancel and refund.

This was indeed a terrible time and in some cases the gifts arrived in time, but for more rural customers it was too late. Taking into consideration our nation's economic state we would presume that finances are low and therefore the online shopping community would so too feel this pressure. However, judging from the last charity event that was Children In Need, this proved that theory was never an issue as 2011 saw this event raise a record breaking amount!

Now the current weather conditions are far better than the previous year the odd fact is that online shopping hit an all time high one week earlier than expected! Postmen are complaining that each year their delivery bags are getting heavier due to the increase for the online shopping buzz. Are we really heading for the double dip? It may be a case of a final celebration before we go head on with the economic monster that's lurking in the shadows, ready to jump out and greet us in 2012.

Whatever the weather, bearing in mind that more and more of us are shopping online, and remembering that our online shop is our shop front, is your site attractive enough to compete? If not then see what your competitors are doing and how they display their online shop, take some pointers from them and then get those ideas to come alive onto your site.
