Earlier on this month VW showcased its new MQB platform at its headquarters in Wolfsburg, Germany. As well as the exterior of the new Golf, Volkswagen showed the bare platform upon which it is based on. The next generation Golf, the MK7 will be based on this generic platform that can be stretched from Polo to Passat size.
According to Volkswagen this new platform will be used for up to 60 models in the VW Group. The flexibility of the platform will mean that different vehicles will be able to be built on the same production line, with production equipment designed to accommodate cars of different length, width and track.
VW factories will eventually become multi branded, meaning that Audis, VWs, SEATs and Skodas will all be built on the same conveyor built. This will enable Volkswagen to switch production from one model to another, making factories more efficient and profitable.
The fact the VW will be launching the new platform on one of their most popular cars shows that they thoroughly tried and tested this new platform. Any Volkswagen Golf for sale is expected to be good, very good so any new model has a lot to live up to.
No specific data or pricing information has been launched by VW on the Golf, but for now the current model is getting tweaked to help attract more buyers. Customers ordering a Volkswagen Golf GT, GTI, GTD or R model will now benefit from leather upholstery as standard, as well as Bluetooth preparation, totalling 2000 in added value.
The Volkswagen Gold GT, GTI and GTD models all currently feature sports seats with bolsters to secure occupants during heavy right footed driving. The Golf R models feature deeper bolsters. The Volkswagen Golf R model can also be specified with Recaro sport seats, further enhancing the driving experience.
