The Volkswagen group is one of the manufacturers that have taken Diesel technology to the next level. With the Golf GT TDI Volkswagen proved that diesels can be powerful too, with the Audi Q7 V12 diesel it showed how outrageously powerful diesels can be and now with a new Audi bi-turbo diesel the VW group has once again proved that it is at the pinnacle of diesel engine technology.
Historically diesel cars were slow, noisy and not as much fun to drive as petrol cars, with the TDI engine VW proved that wrong. Now with a 313PS diesel engine in some Audi models the clich behind diesels engines is about to be rid off forever.
The Audi A6 Saloon, Avant, Allroad Quattro and A7 Sportback ranges are now available with the new bi-turbo diesel engine that produces 313PS and has 650Nm of torque at 1450 rpm, which will propel the Audi A6 Saloon 3.0 BiTDI quattro from 0-62mph in 5.1 seconds and then on to a limited top speed of 155 mph. Even with all this power the new engine will be able to return 44.1 miles to the gallon.
The BiTDI engine is mated to an eight-speed tiptronic transmission to power the latest generation quattro all-wheel-drive system. The nose of a diesel engine is sometimes enough to put people off, so Audi has now introduced a new innovative actuator in the auxiliary channel of the exhaust system. The innovative new actuator system essentially consists of a speaker which imposes a defined oscillation pattern on the exhaust flow and transforms the typical TDI exhaust note into a meatier roar that is similar to the output of a high-performance petrol engine.
The new engine option is available to order on SE and S line specifications in the A6 Saloon, A6 Avant and A7 Sportback at Audi Suffolk.
