Denton is located in Texas. It's one of those small towns (if you consider small 113,383 people) that has everything to offer from a big city, but the warmth and comfort of a small town. It has everything from music, entertainment and in 2010 had their town named "Best College Town Texas. There are seasons and weather transitions. There's everything you can need in this small town. It's historic and futuristic. It's been around for a long long time, It's on the cutting edge with people like Dr. Phil having attended school there, and we all know what happened to him. It's got the weather you want, and the four seasons you need. Denton is the 11th largest city in the Dallas-Forth worth area, yet should you want to go to a "big city", is close enough to Dallas that if you want to go to a big city in just a few minutes. This in no way is intended to be a comprehensive history of Denton. For many reasons, including it's impossible to know all there is to know about a given location. You can have an overview, and that's about all. Denton was formed around 1800. Unlike surrounding cities, Denton has no record of a large Native-American population (before 1800). It was in the mid 1800's that a European settlement started. A man by the name of William Peters, came over from Kentucky after having received a land grant from the Texas Congress. It became known as Peters Colony. Following this establishment, in 1846 the Texas legislature made Peters Colony into Denton County. Politics was established shortly thereafter (187) when Denton received the final county seat. The town and the county were both named after a real person by the name of John B. Denton. He was both a lawyer and a preacher, who unfortunately was killed in battle in 1841, by General Edward H. Tarrant when fighting against Keechi Indians. The incorporation of Denton occurred in 1866; with the first mayor being J.B. Sawyer.
Expansion continued as the agricultural became a staple of the economy. With mills and cottage industries and cottage industries developing. It wasn't long after this in 1881 the Pacific Railway made it's connection with Denton and the first rail connection were installed. This did exactly as it was intending, causing an influx of people into the town. In 1890, Denton became a college town with North Texas Normal College being established in 1890. This same university exist, however it is now called University of North Texas. The second university was named Girls' Industrial College, was founded in 1903. It is now called Texas Woman's University.
Denton has an elevation of 500 to 900 feet and is located on the northern rim of Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan. The three cities of Dallas, Fort Worth and Denton are called Golden Triangle of North Texas. An interesting side not is that Denton is on the northeast rim of Bend Arch-Rort Worth Basin.
Weather is all over the map in Denton. What that means is if you don't like what it's like right now, don't worry, it'll be changing. In the winter, you'll find that you'll receive a small amount of snow at around 2.5 inches a year, with the lowest average temperature being 32 degrees. Spring brings with it the potential for tornadoes, since Texas located at the bottom of Tornado Alley, it is to be expect, although it is rare. When summer comes along, it is humid and hot, thereby making as Denton a subtropical city. Winds are dry and temperatures reach an average of the mid-90s.
Denton's population is 113,383 and is the 10th fastest growing city over 100,000 (between July 2006 and July 2007), and has grown steadily over the last years. It is the 27th largest city in Texas and the 230th largest city within the United States. As with most places, the mens median income is above women at $33,698 and women's being 26,037. With the median income for a home/household being $35,422.
