Don't let the lack of space in your kitchen allow you to miss out on family gatherings or the camaraderie of entertaining a few friends. Admittedly, outfitting a small kitchen area will require a bit more aforethought, but know that it can be done.

Keep the most important priority in mind at all times. Keep as much floor and counter top space open that you possibly can. Decorate windows to let in the maximum amount of light which will also add to the illusion of space that is not really there.

Just about everything you could possibly need for your small kitchen has been reinvented today. All items have the same amenities of their larger counterparts but they have been resized to fit into the smallest of spaces. Any item that can save space and multi-task as well, are the pieces you are looking for.

Look to wall space and corners. Adding shelving will immediately give access to storage for a multiple of items. Many pieces such as pantries or a hutch are being made taller to accommodate the same amount of storage but while using minimal floor space. If you find the appliances to be overpowering, opt to downsize to models that are so space conscious they can hold almost as many items as a full size fridge. Choose items such as microwaves that can be mounted under the upper cabinets. You can do the same with small items such as canister sets and can openers that will leave the much used countertop open for other things.

A well chosen kitchen cart on wheels can be an instant boon for your preparation problems. These would have ample storage below for pots and pans, along with drawers that will hold the many whatnots needed in meal preparation. A side shelf can even be used to keep spices close at hand. Most importantly is a top that will take the rigors of everyday meal preparation.

The eating area should be ample but cozy. What you choose here will depend greatly on whether you live alone, have a partner, or need to have room for one or two children. If you are fortunate enough to have an island that extends from your countertop the addition of a few stools is all that you need. If this easy fix is absent there are numerous styles of seating arrangements from which to choose. For the adult inhabitants a bistro table is a fine choice. Available in different tabletops, I am a bit partial to round ones that eliminate corners that take up walking space. An elevated table would not be a good choice for children but the same sizes can be purchased in normal heights. If you have an empty corner, a small square table can be placed directly into the corner. It can seat two people in this position or four people when pulled away from the wall.

Small furniture for a kitchen is easily purchased and making the right choices will give you a fully functioning area despite the limited space. Take advantage of these few tips and your kitchen will be space where you enjoy spending your time.
