Backlinks are basically what the WWW is based on. When you open a news article and you see underlined, colored words, that is a backlink. If you click on the backlink, it will take you to another page or homepage of another website. Every search button, widget, banner ad, etc. is a backlink as well. Without links, there would be no internet. Period. So appreciate the link for what it is; an incredibly powerful SEO tool.
To create a backlink, open up a word document or begin writing a new blog post. Write a keyword, like effective SEO, and then highlight that word. On your toolbar you will see a little button under the insert tab that will say link or will have a little chain link or chain link with a world graphic. Click it.
A box will pop up asking you for a URL. Type in your URL for your blog or website's homepage or copy and paste it into the box. Don't forget to check the box to open the link in a new tab. Click ok. Edit the rest of your article and then preview what you've written. Make sure your link works. You now have a functioning backlink! Every article you publish should have backlinking for effective seo. If it doesn't, then you are only gaining exposure and not improving your page rank. Why waste the effort when you could get exposure AND page rank out of the same article? Now let's go a little deeper.
What is deeplinking?
Deep linking is linking to any page on someone else's website other than the home page. A shallow link, otherwise known as a backlink, points back to your homepage. A deeplink points to your contact us, about us, or whatever page you want it to EXCEPT your homepage. You make a deeplink the exact same way you make a backlink. There's no magic involved. Just a little extra strategic thought.
What is a reciprocal link?
If I were to put a backlink on my website that pointed to my blog, it would just be a backlink. If I put a backlink going from my blog back to my website, that would be a reciprocal link. When inserting reciprocal links into websites, you will sometimes be doing it by placing a badge on your site or a banner ad or whatever. If it is anything other than a word that will be backlinked, it must be written in html and inserted into the script. If you don't know how to do this, you're not going to learn it from me in this article. Go do some research. Or better yet, hire SEO Wizzardz (<--see there's a deeplink since it's pointed at my contact us page) to do the work for you!
