Use gardening as a way to relax and recuperate. There are many ways to find personal relaxation and peace. Amongst the simplest ways to get there is to start a garden. The generous return of a garden far outweighs the minimal investment of money required. The biggest perk of gardening is the sense of satisfaction you get from what you grow with your own two hands.

Trying to shovel through clay soil can be extremely difficult and tiresome. Make your shoveling job easier by lightly coating a shovel with a layer of wax, then buffing the surface. Either car wax or floor wax will work just fine. The wax will enable the clay soil to simply slide off the shovel, and will also prevent the shovel from rusting.

A certain amount of CO2 is necessary for plants to maximize their growth potential. Plants are more likely to thrive in environments where high levels of CO2 are present. A greenhouse will provide the best method of providing enough CO2 for your plants. To achieve optimal growing conditions, keep the levels of carbon dioxide high in your plants' environment.

Protect your tender deciduous shrubs. Tender, potted shrubs must be protected when the weather is cold. Pull the canes together at the top and securely tie them. Next, using a sheet or perhaps even a blanket, cover the structure. This is a much better method, instead of putting the plastic wrap around the plant. It allows proper air circulation that can prevent rotting.

Lay sod properly. Make sure you prepare your soil before you lay any sod down. Remove weeds and break your soil until all the clumps are gone. Lightly, but firmly compress the soil, making certain it is flat. Dampen the soil completely. Be sure to stagger the rows of sod. The joints should be offset like bricks in a wall. Cut away extra sod and save it to fill in gaps you may create later. According to your climate, you will likely need to water the new sod daily over a period of a couple of weeks. This will insure proper root formation and establishment.

Use a mixture of 1 part ammonia to 4 parts water to spray on snails. The ammonia will not hurt your precious plants, and it will later convert to beneficial nitrogen. It will, though, eliminate all the snails and keep them from damaging your garden beds. This spray works best when used every day.

As you can see, the tips in this article are easy to implement. You just need to learn what to do and apply what you have learned. Analyze the response that your plants have to your gardening methods carefully. If one method does not deliver good results, try the next one. Have some patience, and soon you will have a garden that makes your entire neighborhood jealous.
