It is not always the big things that make a difference in a business making it or not. Often more then not, it's the little things. Consider when you go into a restaurant for the first time and you see the floor is a mess, or the bathrooms look as though they haven't been cleaned in a month, or even worse that as you're eating dinner, a multi-legged "friend" crawls across the table. Ugh. The wrecks the dinner and probably ends it. You'll never go back there again. Then lets consider you go into a restaurant and all of those things are fine, but the food is cold, the waiter slams down the plates, after making you wait 20 minutes to take your order. Again, you're not likely to be going back to that restaurant, at least, not anytime soon. Consider then, were there any signs of this experience before you walked into the front door? Possible, things that people take note of, but usually without realizing it are things along the line of; how much garbage is on the ground, parking availability (with or without valets), if there are valets, how do they behave and how are they dressed? Then what about the windows? Are the clean or dirty? Dust and dirt around the edges or are they so clean that you could eat off of them?
These apparent little things make a difference if someone is going to come to your store or place of business or walk by to the next one. Any any given city there are hundreds of toy stores, fast food places, antique shops and the list goes on. What this translates into is your business MUST stand out from other businesses from the street, before someone will even consider walking in the front door. If your windows are streaked and your inventory can't be seen, then the likelihood of someone walking by increases dramatically. In fact, in a recent survey, customers actually disclosed that they were substantially more likely to purchase from that business if in fact that business was well maintained. The survey continued to uncover another interesting fact, that whatever the first impression was concerning the business, was directly correlated to the how well maintained the outside of the business was. What this should be screaming to you is this: Outside of the business not only determines the number of customers you will have, but the likelihood that they will spend their hard earned money there, if the do happen to come it. It should also be screaming to you that little things mean a lot.
Clearly it's your chose. Should you chose to maintain the outside of your business. Clean windows, well painted, well maintained, you're going to pull in more clients then you chose to ignore the outside and the windows. In a day and age when the competition is steep, and little things clearly mean a lot and make the difference. Why would you want to skimp on something so small, when it makes a big difference.
