After making the decision to leave the family nest and move into a home of your home, the apartment that is in your price range has everything you need with the exception of one thing--SPACE!! Making room for all the items you brought with you is definitely going to prove a challenge, but one that you feel you are up to.

Fortunately, people starting out are often lacking in material things. They can be family hand-me-downs, or things that have been acquired through a thrift store. You knew you would not be able to afford a lot, so you are prepared to make your new home as comfortable and becoming as you possibly can.

The freshly painted rooms in light, bright colors, definitely adds the appearance of more space than there really is. The small living room pieces have been recovered in like fabrics and look rather nice. There is one more hurdle to cross and that is locating a table that will work in the tiny kitchen. There is little room to move in as it is and the measurements you have taken allow for little more than a bistro table for two. What will you do when company is invited over?

The best solution for a table in a room that is lacking in space is one that is wall mounted and folds down when you need it. The only thing you need to be sure of is that the table is joined to the wall through the studs. Regardless of the material they are made of, the weight when in the folded position would easily pull free from the sheetrock.

Needing room to fold down, these tables come with a short extension that protrudes from the wall a couple of inches. This is the piece that must be secured to the wall studs at a height of thirty inches. It will attach to the table with the use of hinges similar those used on a door. It is much easier if two people work together on this part of the project. At least one leg will drop down to hold the table in place, but two of them will do a much better job and give the table a feeling of more stability. When dinner is over, the legs will unlock and fold into the underside of the unit and the entire piece will drop smoothly against the wall.

Not only do you now have a table that can comfortably seat four people but you have much needed prep space as well. As for seating, small stools that take up a minimum of space can be placed around the apartment, and brought to the table when needed.

If you find that your budget will not allow for the purchase of a new table at present, try going to a few garage sales or a thrift store. All you need is any table that comes apart at the center where leaves would normally be added. It must be at least 40 inches wide to ensure proper placement to the wall. Simply remove all of the hardware from the table's underside. Attach one half of the table to the wall allowing room for it to fold. Locking devices for the legs can be purchased at any hardware store. Within no time, you will have a reasonable amount of seating space for the cost of pennies. Up when you need it, and down when you don't. What could be a better solution for the small efficiency apartment?
