Everyone loves a party even your baby who is almost one year old and too young to understand what a party is. He can still enjoy having people around and the attention he'll receive at his very first birthday party. Sometimes it can even be a bit disappointing as the star of the party may sleep all through it!
The main focus of the party should be the baby. By decorating the main room with balloons and a baby motif you will give a festive atmosphere to the area. If you take photographs of the area you will be able to let your baby see what his first ever birthday party was like.
The first thing you need to do is to decide on the date of the party. Sometimes the actual birthday date is during the week making it difficult for people to attend. If the people you want to invite are working through the week have a party on the weekend before or after your little one's birthday. On the actual day of his birthday ask the grandparents and any brothers or sisters of your baby to enjoy a second very private visit.
When you have decided what date you want to have the party on you need to invite people to come. In an age where everyone has computers and cellphones it might be nice for your guests to receive an invitation in the mail and you may even want to send them a party invitation you made by hand. If time is short and your life is too hectic then email or telephone your guests to give them the information. When you're preparing for a celebration you should be able to enjoy it not give yourself extra stress.
Keep things simple so you can also enjoy your baby's first birthday party. You may want to have some party favors or small gifts for your guests. A framed photo of your baby always makes a lovely gift that will be treasured for years.
Take as many photos of your infant as you can during the party and then put them in a photo album to give to him when he is older. Tell your guests to bring their cameras so they also can take photos. After the party is over everyone who wants to can exchange photos so you will be able to have lots of pictures for your baby album.
Even though you may not want your child to eat cake it's nice to have a birthday cake with his name on it especially as it's his first birthday. Some mothers allow a one year old to eat cake while others prefer not to. It's a matter of personal choice. If you do decide to let your child eat the cake he will probably make a mess so be prepared to clean up after he eats it.
Keep any meals simple so you have time to enjoy yourself. You might want to consider snacks and finger food especially if you are having an afternoon party. If you want to have a sit down meal make sure you keep the guest list short.
Your child's 1st birthday should be one to remember if you keep things simple and prepare as much as possible ahead of time. If you do have any problems years later you will probably laugh about them.
